Introduction to the Graduate Institute of Technology and Adolescent English (GITAE)
The Graduate Institute of Technology and Adolescent English at National Changhua University of Education (formerly the Graduate Institute of Children's English) was established on August 1, 2004. On August 1, 2024, the Institute was officially renamed the Graduate Institute of Technology and Adolescent English.
The Institute is dedicated to promote continuity in English learning across junior and senior high schools while strengthening the professional development of secondary school English teachers. By integrating technology-enhanced teaching tools into English learning instruction, the Institute aims to foster the sustainable development of secondary English education and contribute to the long-term growth of English learning education in central Taiwan. Future development focuses on cultivating interdisciplinary professionals in English teaching and research for children and adolescents who possess both strong humanistic values and digital competencies. The key areas of development include:
- Deepen professional expertise in curriculum design, instructional materials development, and teaching methodologies for English education for children and adolescents.
- Enhance practical teaching competencies in English language instruction for children and adolescents.
- Integrate foundational theoretical frameworks from literature and linguistics.
- Strengthen technology-enhanced language teaching strategies.
- Emphasize interdisciplinary and multimodal instructional design.
- Broaden international perspectives and enhance global competitiveness.
The Institute offers two academic tracks: "Technology-Enhanced English Learning" and "Children and Adolescent English". The curriculum is characterized by a student-centered approach that emphasizes close interaction between faculty and students. The program is designed to develop students' expertise in English language teaching and academic research while fostering essential professional competencies, including teamwork, leadership, critical thinking, and presentation skills. Through technology-enhanced language teaching, the Institute prepares graduates to contribute to the advancement of English education and support the vision of promoting English proficiency for all.
